On Wednesday afternoon a young woman was leaving Corner House on Kimathi Street in Downtown Nairobi. The day had been long and she was looking forward to having a relaxing time at home.
The young woman got onto the elevator at 6pm from the 12th floor and the lift stopped halfway through the trip down. Her phone battery had run down and she could not call or text family or friends. That meant that no one could call her either.
The lift never opened in spite of her calls for assistance. For the whole night this young woman was forced to stay in the small lift. Meanwhile the family was seeking their lost daughter all night. It was not fun for them I assure you.
In the morning the lift opened and the traumatised young woman made her way home to rest from her horrifying ordeal.
The lifts at the Corner House are notorious for being unreliable to state the very least. My message to you is try and be careful if you are using them to avoid the nightmare this young woman and her family went through.
