It’s a slow football news week as far as Kenyan fans are concerned. The thing is that with the English Premier League on a break our lives have become pretty pathetic. Arsenal fans like myself are trolling the Internet to find any information on the “imminent transfer” of Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain. Will he sign for the gunners or won’t he we all wonder. United fans are wondering if Ronaldo will come back “home” and the stress of having to live for the first time in their fandom with zero guarantee of trophies now that old red nose has retired. All of us are basically twiddling our thumbs until August when it the madness begins.
Well there is something, besides Big Brother Africa, to keep you busy next month; The Cosafa Cup 2013. This is a trophy for the countries of the SADC region play which is kind of like our CECAFA. Kenya’s Harambee Stars, will be among the 14 teams participating in the 14th edition of the 2013 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA CUP) slated for July 6th-21st in Zambia. It will be our virgin appearance and an attempt to win something since we last won something. No I have no idea when that was. I don’t think the Internet as we know it existed when we were football trophy winners.
The initiative which is funded by our friends from Crown Beverages (That’s SAB Millers local franchise) was unveiled at the K1 Klubhouse on Ojijo Road on Wednesday night and the event saw folks from the company as well as the Kenyan football fraternity attend. It was emceed by Carol Radull. Here are some images from that night.
