| :: USIU Alumni Association AGM
5 November 2006
This past Saturday was such a busy day. I could have gone to
watch Alex Ferguson celebrating 20 years at Man
U and crushing Portsmouth. I could have caught up on my knit work
which I am so behind on. I could have gone to "The Veranda"
(formerly cameo) and drooled myself silly (that place is babe
central!). I could have picked a nice spot and watched some paint
dry. So many options, so little time. I elected to go to USIU
my alma mater and attend the Annual General Meeting of the USIU
Alumni association of which I am a humble member of.
I was late. I had my Colin Bruce
excuse all lined up but no one bothered to ask. Bugger it.
We checked in with Gitau but he
had to bounce so I checked into the hall alone. Check in was by
Cathy Makatiani who tells me that she is working
on a website that will be competing with this one and coming soon.
I welcome more people online. Good luck girlfriend.
I checked in as the reports were being given out by the outgoing
committee that has been led by Kris Senanu. After
reports was the usual discussions and housekeeping... How Ernst
and Young is holding the association over a barrel because they
were fired by USIU the Institution (I wonder why?). Ernst &
Young washindwe!
Apart from such mundane issues, the main reason why many were
here was for election of a new executive committee. The whole
executive committee was leaving and being replaced by new blood.
The reign of terror (you do know that I am kidding right?) of
the Kris Senanu (of Access
Kenya) led team came to an end. The team had overseen the
alumni associations’ growth in revenues to a healthy bank
balance and there were no issues of Anglo leasing type of contracts
during this committee's reign. Well done guys.
The elections begun and the outcome could not have been more
surprising. For one, Michael Oyier was in the
house and somehow found himself as Chair of the executive committee.
Another landslide like when
we were back in college. The whole team that was chosen to
the executive committee include;
1. Michael Oyier - Chair
2. Titus Wangondu - Vice-Chair
3. Isaac Maluki - Secretary
4. Eunice Hunga - Treasurer
5. Peter Gathogo - Committee member
6. Rosemary Korir - Committee member
7. Helen Longwe Okeyo- Committee member
8. Kris Senanu - Committee member
9. Uvyu Mbole - Committee member
This team is a really interesting mix of experience and youthful
exuberance. Something tells me that USIU
alumni association will get very interesting very soon. Watch
this space.
