Looking good: Gitau (left) with Christine of Old Mutual

Another of the pals I run into this AIESEC in USIU event was one Gitau Muraguri. Our first meeting was in USIU where the man was a member of a group of guys with the tag of the CD boys. Basically these were the guys that were in the team of Douglas Mutavi and comprised Isaac Maluki, Andrew Nasibi (before he was elevated to Finance after that chic who died), Gitau Muraguri, Martin Njage, Fred Chege and Myself. We were called the CD boys as were basically all guys and were in the Corporate Development (external relations) Subcommittee. Eventually, Gitau who for some reason was also called Stanley or Stano went on to be in charge of the Corporate Development Subcomm in USIU in the Julie Sisenda led team alongside Lau and others.

After graduation he joined Haco where he distinguised himself selling the very strange product that is Jeyes Bloo. This is a product that you use to clean your loo that competes with Harpic. After a long stint selling toilet cleaning products, he tried his hand at shoe cleaning products where he again excelled at selling Ric shoe polish. Last year he joined Nestle and he was posted at the Nescafe desk. After selling cleaning products, selling Nescafe is a pretty simple task I guess.

He seems to have become an integral implementer of Nestlé’s strategy in Kenya in the recent months. And it may be reaping some dividends. Of late I have noted some many Nescafe billboards everywhere I go. The effect is being felt with Dorman’s also launching their own brands and explaining to us that they are as Kenyan as Rongai and the like. Luckily their billboard near museum hill centre doesn’t proclaim AS Kenyan: As Pattni, As Cholmodley: As Angloleasing coz they know that we won’t touch their product unless they make us feel proud Kenyans.

Heres one for you. Gitau Muraguri is a Kenyan as it gets. Drink Nescafe proudly!
