| :: Eddah Kaguthi's environmental passion
20 November 2006

She reminds me of Eddah. Not as pretty though
Have been watching this climate
conference going on at Gigiri with some interest. The conference
is rather important if those delegates can come to some agreements
to make our consumption of the world resources better. The funny
thing is that as Wangari Maathai was launching
her 1 billion trees campaign, the person that came to mind was
good pal Eddah Kaguthi.
I met Eddah Kaguthi in college
and here I came to learn of two of her passions - the environment
and United Kisumu a.k.a UK. Even as she did International relations,
she concentrated more with the environmental part of the degree
and went to on Kenyatta University
to master in it.
The last few years her passions for Kisumu and the environment
have come to the fore. She is based in Kisumu and works for the
Lake Victoria
Environmental Management Project (LVEMP). Now that is what
is called passion. Working in a city one loves on a vital part
of Kenya's make up as a country. We all know Lake Victoria feeds
Kenya. And Eddah is part of the programme that at the forefront
of the ensuring that the lake is being properly utilised.
If Wangari Maathai doesn’t convince you to plant that tree,
think of Eddah... and pick up that seedling.
