David Mugomba's SMS solution

Lets face it Red Korna this season really sucks. I guess that I am not part of their target audience or something coz watching this show has really become a chore. Kajairo who was great doing music video style parodies of songs is now doing them live (boring). Churchill seems to have run out of fresh material and is now obsessed with whom live in greater Nairobi . Mudomo baggy has maintained his bland style. The biggest disappointment for me is Redykyulas. They have so ran out of material that they have resorted to personal attacks on media personalities. It's a wonder they haven't been sued so far.

At the end of each show, one is asked to send an sms to get a chance to win some goodies from GSK. The company that is running the sms technology is called Call Handling Interactive (CHI). A few months ago, David Mugomba told me that he had started a new firm that dealt in phone solutions. I paid no mind to this until the new series of Red Korna on NTV came on air.

I recently spoke to a GSK official and asked him how the sms campaign was doing. The campaign seems to be going quite well. After every show they receive around 5,000 smses. The reason that GSK got into the whole sms thing was to profile their clientele from every corner of the country. This campaign has helped them to do just this.

So how does this work? You call CHI and they look at your product/company. They then get a four digit sms for customers to send their sms. You then ask customers to send an sms to the number usually with promise of a reward. A very innovative way of getting feedback. A popular way of doing this is to offer prizes for anyone that buys a specific product and smses a specific number. For more information about all the various permutations please visit CHI.

This sms solution is great. It's really hard to get feedback on your product and trends. The most effective way currently is go hire a research firm. While it's great to hire Steadman or Consumer Insight these guys can be quite pricey. That's why firms like David Mugomba's CHI and Gerald Owino's Instant Grass come in handy. They use innovative new techniques to get data and I support them whole heartedly. Give them a call.
