| :: Lead the AIESEC Magazine
16 August, 2006
Recently sent the latest edition of the Lead Magazine. This is
that little AIESEC publication that sometimes gets published depending
on which team is in office. The magazine this year is 60 pages
of pure nostalgia. I don’t want to completely ruin it for
you if you haven't already read it but here are some highlights.
The usual features; experiences of trainees from other countries
in Kenya and vice versa; Reports from officials of the organisation;
AIESEC alumni of note; reports from the local chapters. Companies
portraying themselves in their best light - EABL on responsible
drinking, Kenya Shell on why we need to work for them.
Of rather interest to me was a chronological look at the association
from 1970 when the association was formed all the way to the current
year. Illuminating. Until it gets to the period I was "active"
mid 1996-1998. No information. Yaani the years I was there are
a big blank. We must have been such losers us 1996-9 guys. With
this in mind, I would like at this moment to deny any association
with such a forko jembe organisation.
Also there was the mandatory Mike Eldon feature. I think it’s
in the AIESEC constitution somewhere...
“…Article 11a) AIESEC in Kenya shall feature
an article on one Mike Eldon and his traineeships to wine growing
France and hippy USA in each of its publications. Failure to do
this will result in a fine of not less than 10 million Kenya shillings
and a lashing at the public square of the following:
1. Editor of said publication
2. Local Committee president of Local Committee producing said
publication
3. The whole national committee of AIESEC in Kenya
4. Sponsors of said publication
5. Mayor of city publication is done”
With such in built checks and balances, you can be sure that
there is no way you can miss an article from or about Mike Eldon.
Not at least until they amend the constitution. Maybe the minimum
reforms ODM debate should consider this as one of there major
demands.
Don't want to ruin your reading pleasure more than I already
have. You can read the Lead Magazine here
in its entirety.
