The wedding business is getting Africa wide with Zambia hosting its first Wedding Expo this March. The brains behind the expo have a Kenyan connection. The wedding as an enterprise has blown up in Kenya as one of the biggest cottage industry turned billion (I hope) shilling businesses. This is on the coat tails of the Wedding Show that screens every Sunday on Citizen TV led by the one and Only Nownee Gathownee (her name is Noni Gathoni but this is how she used to pronounce the word when I was watching the show as I nursed hangies a few years back).
A newer and to some extent slicker show Samantha Bridal screened on NTV was unleashed following the success of the Citizen TV property produced by wedding show company Samantha Bridal. Samantha Bridal hosts Wedding Expos annually at the Sarit centre with folks getting married checking out vendors.
It seems that the wedding expo disease has been exported to Zambia as well as Lusaka hosted its first ever Wedding Expo on 11-13th March this year. The expo was hosted at the Lusaka Metropolitan Conference centre and had eight high profile wedding vendors and saw visitors in their hundreds come through and check out vendors.
Now I am sure you are wondering why I am posting about a Wedding Expo in Lusaka and not one in Nairobi. It’s not just that tomorrow May 25 is Africa day and I am going for this whole Pan Africanist vein. Although it does help, the thing is that the brains behind the expo have a Nairobi connection. They are Zambian Born Kenya based model and msupuprenuer Ronah Musenga and Kenyan born Kenyan based Christabel Ododa. The two were the driving force behind the well attended event and I salute the two. To see more pictures from the expo please check out the official Facebook page for the event. The next event will be in November this year for those who wish to try their luck in the Zambian Wedding Market.
