Its been in the works for a while. Our friends from Kenya Airways (KQ) finally saw some people get on the plane and make their way to Livingstone in one piece. The first flight happened last week and had Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of Kenya Airways, Dr. Titus Naikuni and a few other folks like Mary Mildred Zambezi the Zambian High Commissioner to Kenya.
As you can imagine, the Zambia’s Minister for Tourism and Arts, Sylvia Masebo was quite pleased to receive the guests. She made some remarks about the importance of connectivity for tourism to thrive. Her statement included the following choice quote;
“The challenge in tourism has been the issue of connectivity. In Africa, it is difficult to move from one country to another, and this has been a barrier to enhancing intra-African tourism.”
We can now expect Kenyans to flood the Zambian city and Zambians to have to seek the Nyamminyammi to protect them from the invasion.
The best news as far I was concerned though is that KQ anticipates having direct flights to all African capitals by 2016. I look forward to that.
