I was heading to the Goethe for this launch when I got word of this new website being launched and could I please pass by? Why not? After all I am a website guy and this Goethe event looked weird anyway (sour grapes yawa) so I headed out to the Serena. I checked in and off course I was the first guy in there. The ladies at the reception were ever so kind and the guys organising the event must have gone out of their way to get the yellowest hostesses in town. Alek Wek would never have made it through the screening process here however hot that dark beauty is. I walked in and who was I to meet in there as they set up? Engineer John Waweru. And off course you know that the first thing I did was to head straight to the man and ask him how life at the  CCK (where he used to be the director) is. The gentleman informed me that he has long ago gone into private business with this company called MIS Solutions Limited. I suspect that he probably thinks this fellow claiming to be a blogger who handed him a card has some sort of a loose nut.

Also in the house was Churchill who I had worked with on that Churchill Live show a few months ago. I had a quick chat and he informs me that what we were launching here today was the future. Lucky for me the banner on site was kind enough to inform me that the event we were at today was for this new site Vuma.co.ke. And here I was thinking that we were here for the launch of this new product from Bernsoft called Afribase.com. It’s good sometimes to shut your mouth and not look like an ignoramus sometimes yawa. The place suddenly filled up and I started hobnobbing with some pretty cool people. Like Suzzana Gachukia the singer who I had met at the True Love is 5 gig a while back. And there was also some other musicians in the house like Jimmy Gait famous for his “Muhadhara” song (which performed later) and who I met at the Kisima Awards the other day. And there were a few other musicians in the house like Maji Maji of 4play records (saying he is of Giddy Giddy Maji Maji is so 2005) chilling out with new video fox Big Tedd. And also in here was Collo from that defunct Kleptomaniax who is also the self proclaimed “King wa rap” (although I suspect Kanye West might have something to say about this if he heard this refrain). And there was Angela "Shinde" Mwandanda and Angela "rabbo" Ndambuki popular for being in Kenya’s girl group Tattuu. My fashion consultant Keshi tells me that the way Shinde was sporting a long skirt and boots are a definite fashion no no and I must bow to her superior wisdom in this arena (in fact in most arenas). And there was the dread locked heart throb from Ukambani one Ken Wa Maria who gave me the first chance to Keshi star struck. It’s not likely to happen again any time soon so let me just savour that feeling.

Away from the famous musicians there were also the usual entertainment journos like TKB and Opongita and Mateso and Kenna and Spicy Bizz blog girl and Hot secretz blog girl and a few others. We were all busy recording the proceedings of the day. The emceeing was being done by the funniest man in town Churchill who I had had a chat earlier. He basically introduced the team behind the product that we were all launching here today. The short version then (who has time these days); The Music Copyright society of Kenya (MCSK) has come together with the guys who developed Vuma.co.ke alongside The I & M bank. Henceforth musicians will now be able to submit their music content to the website. The content with then be sold and they will then be able to retain up to 70 percent of the earnings. I&M are the guys who will be handing the financial transactions. This way a musician can be able to earn some extra money from the program. Not bad by anyone's standards. I am yet to test the product but the site looks like the typical content selling portal and I have to wait for people to give some testimonies for it.
