| Copa Coca-Cola Central region proceeds to the provincial level |

A total of 25 teams from the COPA Coca-Cola tournament, played over the weekend in Central region, have been selected for the provincials challenge to take place from 2nd -4th April in Nyeri town. The 25 teams- 17 boys’ teams and girls’ teams emerged winners from a pool of 131 teams that battled it out during the Districts’ stage of the tournament. The tournament in Central region was played in 8 major towns including Thika, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Maragua, Muranga, Nyahururu, Nanyuki and Kiambu. Githurai, Samura, and Gatunyu teams qualified from the games played in Thika, while Thika Queens will be accompanying them to the provincials. In Nyeri, Spread Youth, Nyeri High and Daal u quran qualified from the boys teams. Gatuge Girls secondary team trounced their opponents to proceed to the Provincials. Kirinyaga town saw Mutila Youth club emerge winners. Karoti Girls secondary from the town will be joining the other 6 girls’ teams at the Provincials. Geturo and Gaishagiro Sec teams qualified from the games played in Maragua, while Karioa girls Sec will be accompanying them to the provincials. In Muranga, Kiagothu and Waithaga qualified from the boys teams. The girls will be represented by Kahuhia Stars youth club. Kinangop Totos and Gitingi boys teams will represent Nyahururu town and the girls will be represented by Shamata girls Secondary School. In Nanyuki, Inoro sec and Nanyuki High qualified from the boys teams. The girls will be represented by Ngenia Sec School. And in Kiambu, the following teams emerged winners: Karuri high, Limuru Olympic youth club and Kirenga Girls Secondary School. Ms Pamela Mutua said that the organizers were impressed with the Central Kenya event. “Central Kenya teams have displayed impressive level of football skills. Our talent scouts were in the region and have been able to identify some very good talent from the area, who will be taking on each other in the provincial stage of the tournament.” The scope of this year’s COPA Coca-Cola has increased, with 1,324 teams of under-17 youth expected to take part in the five-month tournament. Last year, 256 teams participated. The Dream Team – which comprises 16 of the best players from the national tournament – will travel to South Africa for a soccer camp to undergo world-class training and coaching and have a chance to play in the Africa COPA Coca-Cola tournament.
