Katindi Sivi waxes economical

So there's this new talk show "together on the move" on KBC that comes on Sunday afternoon and highlights various topics of interest to the general public. The show is hosted by Dommi Yambo-Odotte

who does a great job managing the show. The first thing I noticed Dommi’s interview technique is her penchant for pointing. Boy does the lady point. When she is asking questions to the audience and her panellists she points so much.

The reason for this post is not Yambo-Odotte and her pointing though. The show that has just ended a few minutes ago was on the budget and sharing of the national cake. The panel consisted of Betty Maina an activist type person, Faith Muriuki a headmistress of Mukuru primary school and Katindi Sivi. Betty Maina (I hope to God this is her correct name, she looked like one those people who could fix you if you wrote her name wrong. If you are reading this Betty - I hope you aren't - please forgive my misspelling. I didn't mean any evil by it. Please do not visit any evil upon and mine) was doing a good job highlighting how lowly the government took the gender issue. It had for instance only allocated Ksh10 million for a gender desk that was meant to mainstream gender into the budgeting process. She was not happy. In fact girlfriend looked really pissed. Faith Muriuki on then other hand was showcasing some homemade sanitary towels (that tampons in politically correct English) made at her school that ensured that girls attended class.

As I watched the issues of women gender and the budget being discussed only one thing kept me from changing the channel; Katindi Sivi. I last met Katindi Sivi several moons ago at the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) where she worked (and still does) as a programme officer. At the time, they were involved in this National Vision thing that had been worked on by 40 young Kenyans. I was mighty impressed by her work and the IEA in general. During “together on the move” Katindi explained a bit about the government budget process and how it worked. And suggested ways we can be involved to change it. I rather liked that. And she was composed and thoughtful and incisive in her contributions. Keep up the good work girl!
