Its not just the weather that brought showers and the medals rained down in Daegu which was really cool. We are due some plaudits as Kenyans after the traumatising last few years that The Hague tribunals are showing as well as the mad inflation we are going through. One kilo of sugar at Kshs220 if you can get it? Seriously? We need another look at this thing. If must do the whole awards and feeling good thing shall we try and focus on the Pillar awards? These are awards in the second years that are meant for young Kenyan women doing their best to impact society. The five categories including Sports, Arts and Culture, Entrepreneurship and more are due to happen in December. The awards committee hosted a luncheon at the Karen Country Lodge which wasn't too bad. The best part is that winners go home with a nice trophy and a cool One Million Shillings bob. That's right baby. The winner becomes an instant millionaire (tax not withstanding). You know that someone needs to win the awards ne? Then go to the Face book page of the awards and start with the nominating. Either that or send an SMS to 4665 with the name and category of the person you need to see winning. Someone needs to carry that mula y'all. Its not just local awards that are available people. Forbes are currently compiling a list of The 40 Most Influential Celebrities In Africa. The South Africans and West Africans are already on this story nominating their peeps. I suggest that you head to the official page and nominate someone already. We need East Africans on that list even if its Nonini people we need to have our voice out there. Talking about West Africans I have to say that even they have their own issues. The Nigerians and Ghanaians seem to have some very interesting India - Pakistan rivalry/beef tendencies. If you don't believe me then check out this Ghanaian group thanking God they are not “a Nigerians” and the Nigerians rebuttal. While some might see this as being offensive I see it as quite hilarious on both sides. |
