| And Facebook gets a Kenyan King (and queen) |

It was hard getting up on the Saturday what with launching Kache by Angie the previous night and then continuing on with the carousing at Westie. I was barely useful as a human being as I prepared for the wall post. The post you ask? Well the last week those guys had been running a face off on Facebook. The competition was simple. Post your comment on the group wall. Daily they were giving away a high end phone and the overall winner would get sijui a Playstation, years free Internet and other stuff. I think a massage with a 'happy ending" or something of the sort. I am not big fan of that monopoly company but our good pal Syoks (last spotted at the Ngong Hills "debacle") was a contender in the competition. Apparently they were using the week preceding to sieve the frogs from the princes/princesses (which reminds me... So only women get to kiss frogs that turn into princes. So what do dudes kiss? Skinny jeans sporting, weave branding, "I don’t need your attitude, I have my own” wearing T-shirt wearing monstrosities who then become princesses?). Saturday was meant for the finalists to post their one comment and we the people would post what we wanted and decided the winner. So when our boy posted his comment which went something like "You know we are here for nothing but winning...Spaartaans." It’s not a verbatim thing and I could not be bothered to look for it on FB right now. Anyway there was the post and I started posted basic comments. The plan was to head to the bash at the KICC so I wanted to just post a few additions and then take off. Nice plan no? I think not. I was at home was watching K24 and they were showing the Bamburi Rugby Super series. I think to myself let me add a few comments as I watch the games. The games on offer today were Lions Vs Cheetahs and Rhinos Vs Buffalos. So I am watching these high quality matches and I find that I couldn’t leave the house. And as I was following proceedings, K24 tell me they will be screening the Arsenal Man City match live at 7:30pm. Was I to be leaving the mayoral parlor today? Somehow I think not. There were walkovers as far as the rugby was concerned as the Rhinos and Cheetahs drubbed their opponents with cricket scores. Woiyee poleni. It wasn't the TV that was keeping me in my house though (although it helped). I realised that when I started making my comments it was just your typical "Syoks for King of Facebook" and "Spartaanns auuuu!" The thing is that the comments were coming fast and thick and I wanted to see just how many comments we could post and they started slowly changing. I went as far as writing comments such as "eyes," "legs," "chicken" "12k ni yangu". It was really ridiculous. And I was almost (believe it on not) the sanest person posting on that status. With the likes of Timothy Gichunge, Maureen Ngugi, Chamia Sisters, Eunita Powers, Joy Kash, Samuel Murangiri, ann Marete, Daktari Kavuwa, Daniel Ndeti and Edna Kirigia in your Spartan army you can be certain that you will have a shower of comments coming through. And it was such a down pour you had to wonder what kamuti Syoks had fed guys. This thing was getting a life of its own and by the time the deadline arrived at 5pm I was exhausted with the posted and my thumbs were tired of typing on my nokia E75. When I stopped commenting there were already over 23,000 status and I was happy. No one surely could have beaten our King surely? Yes he did win with over 24,000 comments. And there was a queen as well. Shiro Walcott Wariunge. Walcott makes her an Arsenal fan which makes her queenly in my books. All hail the King and Queen of Facebook! Stephen “Syoks ”Musyoka and Shiro Walcott Waruinge P.s. K24 are not kidding with this sports thing. I followed the rugby with what was most boring Arsenal match I have had the misfortune to watch against Man City (down with Kunyibayor!). >> Related Links :: Safaricom (finally) “gets” some social media mojo with “Faceoff" :: Next viral thing after Makmende | techweez :: Face-Off party with Safaricom Live | Daniel "Churchill" Ndambuki |
