press release here
It’s been interesting this past few months since
GTV came into the scene. There
has been a flurry of activity from their main competitor
in the Kenyan marketplace for pay TV MNET.
There was Big Brother Africa which has a Kenyan (who was
mercifully kicked out pretty quickly) and then there is
Catwalk Kenya. I missed that Catwalk Kenya launch as I was
out of town seeing a man about a dog and you could feel
my pain as I missed watching models on the catwalk doing
their thing. Sob. Some people have all the luck. So when
I got word that DSTV were unleashing some new services I
made a beeline for the place like my life depended on it.

Dawa ya GTV ni Esther Wahome |
I checked in with Baby Girl and immediately
started meeting so many wananichi (Wananchi Njenga Karume style). The
first dude I met was Smitta and we started talking
about our bet. Its not looking so hot for Chelski right now
so you can imagine that the pain that the poor man is in what
with Arsenal at the top of the table. I threatened him that he
would be wearing the wedding dress at the Chaguo La Teeniez and
that look on his face was just priceless. Also ran into good pal
Bosire who was with Sande another
pal. We had to dash for a bit and came back just as the Content
manager for MNET was talking about those new shows they were unleashing
on their bouquets to the public. They include Gospel One - a gospel
channel, Trace TV - the urban music channel only in English unlike
the French one were are used to, National Geographic Wild - wildlife
channel, The Style Channel and MNET stars. For the whole press
release, click here if you
may. There was also a promise for new revised prices for all DSTV
packages in the not too distanf future. With baited breath I wait.
After the presentation by MNET which included its Content manager
and the big don of MNET the company (you should have seen me going
like mdosi was MNET yote Africa ... wa wa wa wa!). The gathered
media were asked for any questions. The first came from Smitta
and it went a bit like this..."Once upon a time there was
darkness in the land and the..." Like reading the bible I
tell you. As he was trying to get the question out a loud sound
was heard from the other end of the room and the poor fellow had
wait before continuing his question. It was quite funny. And the
questions came in fast thick from normal TV and even from Al Jazeela.
After the questions (someone by now was so impatient that he asked
quite loudly "Is it over!?) people could chill and start
asking questions of each other.
And I started spotting everyone in town... Dickson
who was once called Dickey Dax who we enjoyed a friendly chat
about the Adam magazine for which he writes. I am of the opinion
that this magazine should have just been called Madam and then
everyone would have gotten what they were looking for. He explained
to me that they were looking for a different demographic and I
was just smiling and nodding and agreeing (different demographic
- not men, women and guys of questionable sexual orientation).
And there was Carol Odero who I haven't seen
in donkey years. Now Carol is so hot that looking at her makes
one's eyes tear from the pleasure they are getting. I tried to
help her use her hotness to her advantage but she was just being
nice. Some people just don't know just how good it can be if they
tried to be clever once in a while.
And there was Clay Muganda too who will always
make me laugh when he is kandamizaing jamaas in that column of
his. And Tim Njiru who is always in Insync. And
there was Tony Ngare with whom we were commiserating
about whatever kamuti that New Zealand was given as they lost
to France. And there was Carole "Malouda" Wahome
probably was still mourning Mourinho's exit... and looking good!
And there was Seanice that capital FM radio presenter...
wait I saw her earlier before the presentations were made in a
(lemme see if I get this with my colour blind skills) red nay
pink nay ok a colour that looked somewhere between the two. And
off course there was Patricia and Wangeci
Murage both of MNET.
We hail the new additions to the DSTV offering and now I really
have to get me one. Which reminds me that if you want to hook
up DSTV or GTV, give my guy Moses Wahome a holler
and he should hook you up. Post haste. His Cell is 0722-778153
